I was so pleased to work in collaboration with Lorna Stuber as the editor for my poetry manuscript. 

I wanted to compile a collection of my poetry that I had written over time, as a memoir for my children and grandchildren. Lorna is passionate about editing and improved my writing by spotting inconsistencies in grammar and corrected references in many of my poems. 

Lorna respected my passion for writing poetry, and she made the process seamless by suggesting cover designers and publishers. She also responded to all my questions and led me through the publishing process. 

Nothing is more satisfying that receiving the finished published book in the mail and celebrating the completion of a compilation of writing! 

Lorna has been fantastic to work with! She’s detail-oriented, great at communicating, and excellent at what she does. She’s done an amazing job with the proofreading work I’ve given her, but she’s also gone above and beyond what I expected – suggesting meaningful changes to article structure, headings, and more to make my content more valuable and enjoyable for readers.

I had never hired a proofreader before and was concerned about getting bogged down with nit-picky corrections that weren’t worth my time, but this has not been the case. The feedback has been useful and relevant, and I look forward to continuing to work with Lorna. 

To provide Lorna with a glimpse of my intent, I shared with her the rough first draft of the manuscript (80,000 words). After having shared with her my guilt, fear, and emotional challenges, I asked Lorna if she could do the heavy lifting of developing the manuscript without altering my voice. I suggested that she probe me—push me—to dig deep within myself and verbally explain to her my feelings about the events of my life so that she could fill in the gaps in my writing. We needed to have multiple conversations to make up for my shortcomings in expressing my thoughts and emotions so that we could prompt readers to bring their own emotions to my books.

I was once gifted with a dream catcher by a dear friend of Indigenous ancestry. She explained its significance and purpose, and hung it near my work station! Metaphorically speaking, Lorna Stuber is my dream catcher. She snared my words and helped me spin them into a web of clarity that conveyed the essence of my intended messages. For that I am grateful. My dream of a bound collection of memories would not exist had it not been for the professional standards that Lorna implemented into my writing along the way.
